Scott Horscroft has shaped the sound of Australian music for the past two decades, and helped its artists to achieve success on a global scale.
The breadth of his production and mixing work is immense, producing career-defining international releases by Alison Wonderland, DMA’S, Empire Of The Sun, Silverchair and The Presets. He’s also helped create pivotal records by Hayley Mary (The Jezabels), The Temper Trap, Oh Mercy and Bridezilla.
Scott cut his teeth owning and operating Surry Hills-based studio Big Jesus Burger (BJB) from 2003 to 2012, which birthed ARIA Award-winning and -nominated albums by Birds Of Tokyo, Paul Kelly, The Sleepy Jackson, The Panics and others. Joining EMI Music Australia in 2011 as Vice President of A&R, and then General Manger of A&R from 2013, Scott developed smash records with Empire Of The Sun, 360, Alison Wonderland, Middle Kids, Ricki-Lee and Tina Arena.
Bringing all his passions together, in 2013 he acquired and reignited The Grove Studios on the NSW Central Coast. Opening it up to external use as a state-of-the-art recording studio and training academy, in the past few years the facility has played host to the current crop of world-conquering Australian talent including Ocean Alley, Sarah Blasko, Olympia, Violent Soho, Courtney Barnett, Julia Jacklin and Vera Blue.
Scott says, “Realising an artist’s vision through producing their music is an extraordinary joy and privilege. Being open to ideas, spotting that lightning-in-a-bottle moment in the studio, and capturing it all on a record is something I’ll never tire of. Whether it’s working with developing artists to find their dream or mixing tracks for commercial release it’s always a challenge, but a rewarding one. And achieving an end result that’s both satisfying to the artist, as well as competitive and relevant to the market it’s released in, is the ultimate goal.”
As a devoted fan of music and champion of its creators, Scott’s pedigree and knowledge is unparalleled. As someone with the innate ability to both recognise global trends and help shape them, his enthusiasm is infectious and his expertise invaluable.
